OVERVIEW
Combine our Sun-O Huelva Camp 2025 with Portugal O Meeting 2025!
We held 3 very successful Andalucia-O-Meetings in this area and have, over the years, built a solid network of 45sq kms of maps (most of them new or renewed in the last 2 years) around Punta Umbria holiday resorts. This camp is unique ‘step out the hotel door’ and start for endless hours and kms of orienteering in varied and challenging terrains, most of them with smooth sandy surface, gentle for the bones and ligaments. The weather conditions are mostly mild, and prices very competitive.
AVAILABILITY
BREAKING NEWS! We have made a large update of the forest maps to be sure you will find the best possible conditions… and the forest is great! For end-of-the-year trainings available with “fresh” tapes will be 1,2,5,6,7,8,10!
This camp is available all year long. From 2023 we will include a system of “virtual controls”: O-Range (for Garmin watches). This way, you can run the courses at any moment, and get a signal from your watch when you reach the control!
In addition,
- Colored control tapes (at some of the trainings) will be in the forest and regularly checked by our staff between 15Jan2025 and 15Mar2025
- Rest of year: tapes might still be there but this is not at all guaranteed. Virtual-controls systems will be available.
TERRAIN
Terrains are generally fast to very fast, with lots of details, flat and hilly, sand dunes and pines trees, mixed with some low bushes, especially near the coast. Abundant network of paths.
BOOKING
[NEW] Book your maps directly via our partner omaps.io and get your package at the picking-up point. We recommend you book your maps at least 10 days prior to your arrival.
Combine your training camp in Huelva 2025 with Portugal O Meeting (only 1 hour driving from Punta Umbría/Huelva to the POM 2025 area).
To make it even more interesting, we are organizing 4 SportIdent trainings the week before Portugal O Meeting.

ACCOMMODATION
—- We recommend Apartments Leo and Leo Deluxe , located next to Punta Umbria forest just a few steps away from the beach. Their apartments are fully equipped with cooking utensils, microwave, airco, refrigerator, satellite TV, sheets and towels (changed every 4 days). The complex has an outside swimming pool, one inside spa. 3 types of apartments are offered:
- Leo: Apt T1 – 2/3pax (1 room double/twin, 1 sofabed)
- Leo Deluxe: Apt T2 – 3/4pax (1 room double, 1 room twin)
- Leo Deluxe: Apt T3 – 4/5/6pax (1 room double, 1 room w/ twin beds, 1 room w/ single bed, 1 sofabed).
—- Do you look for hidden accommodation in the middle of the forest and O-Maps, with your family or your group, you should consider Albergue Rural Territorio del Gato. Contact us if you need some help with booking.
—- OFTEN CLOSED in January and February but outside this period, a great resort, also right on one of our training maps, is Hotel Barcelo Punta Umbria Mar ****, just a few steps away from the beach, thanks a the walkway that unites the hotel with the beach. The rooms are large, bright, and spacious, equipped with LTV, air conditioning, a safe, mini-bar and sofa, perfect for families to enjoy. It has a great buffet restaurant that offers typical Andalusian cuisine (tailored to sportive groups) and a snack service. And for those who love to relax, the hotel also features a health and wellness center with a complete massage program, a heated swimming pool with swan neck showers and a waterfall, a mini pool with hydromassage, a sauna, and a Turkish bath.
OTHER INFO
- Mountainbike: Punta Umbria forests has many nice(but sometimes sandy) trails. Rentals available.
- Roadbike: around Punta Umbria is rather flat. Further north in Huelva province, you will find more hilly areas in direction of the Sierra. Rentals available.
- Swimming Pool: Punta Umbria city has a public, covered swimming pool
- Atletics Track: Punta Umbria has a public athletics track, in good shape, located in great surroundings, next to the water and forest
- Cross country running: Punta Umbria hosted world champs cross country in 2011. Pine forests and its soil are great for long distance running.
- Fitness Center: the little sports center next to the athletics track has small room for weight training, free weights. Access upon request.
- Restaurants: available nearby
- Supermarkets: available nearby
- Sightseeing: Huelva and its environment is a mecca for those interested in Christopher Columbus, with a number of significant tourist attractions relating to the famous explorer. Nice for a morning or afternoon trip!
