NAOM (WRE) & EVORA

The desolate Alentejo region always surprises. We start the package with a World Ranking Event, the Norte Alentejo Orienteering Meeting (NAOM), in typical Alentejo terrains, very detailed, flat and rocky. Just wonderfull!
Hereafter, we move to Evora, technically extremely demanding and physically easy to run, it steadily is becoming elite-orienteers' must-do-winter-stop. Our local delegates Raquel and Tiago organise training camps here for some years now and are being praised for the terrains and high quality tranings.
This year will be VERY special, as 30 square kms of new terrains have just been mapped...

O-Maps & Terrains:
:: NAOM terrain is typical Alentejo, with cork-oak and holm-oak trees (sparse). There are several rocky elements. Vegetation will be the usual for the time of the year: fresh, green and short. There are also some paths and is moderately hilly. There are also a great number of barbed wire fences.
:: Evora terrains are mostly cork-oak, wavy, fast, flat, easy running with several rocky elements and vegetation, but you will also experience some hilly terrains and a wonderfull pine tree forest. city sprints are very challenging and it narrow streets and houses offer you a taste of Alentejo culture.
:: Apart from the 2008 newly mapped areas, 30 square kms are in the pipeline for autumn 2009, ready for you at the newyear camp!
:: map samples
:: Local Sun-O Staff members Tiago Aires & Raquel costa will plan your training courses
Lodging:
:: NAOM Hotel Rural Da Lameira (Half Board) (fotos) ; 4 star rural hotel, Alentejo at its best, with typical rooms, environment and quietness.
:: EvoraHotel*** , located in the outskirts of Evora city (20km from Arraiolos), ideal sports facilities, pool, sauna, yacuzi, varied buffet meals.
:: We pre-booked a set of apartments/rural houses for you in the area of Arraiolos, equiped for cooking.
:: Important note: rural houses and apartments in Alentejo are constructed to protect from the heat instead of the cold; winter or early spring stays might thus be rather chilly, even if most of the lodgings are equipped with heaters/stoves. You can avoid this by choosing for the EvoraHotel option!
